Operation Smart Sniff employs only passive alert dogs, which means, our dogs do not scratch, bark, bite, or otherwise disrupt property or progress when alerting on the presence of contraband.  Operation Smart Sniff dogs merely sit and stare at the odor presence and wait to be praised by their handler.  This passive alert method is far more condoning to the environments associated with the private sector.  Passive alerts are less noticeable by the public and allow for discrete detections of narcotics, weapons and explosives.
